Amalia Duarte

Mendham Township Committee

Amalia Duarte, a long-time Mendham resident and active community member, is seeking re-election to the Mendham Township Committee. She currently serves as Public Affairs Director for ECLC of New Jersey, a nonprofit dedicated to providing "Education, Careers & Lifelong Community" to more than 900 children and adults with disabilities. Additionally, she holds a number of volunteer positions.

As a member of the township committee, Duarte has been hard at work, delivering much-needed services while keeping taxes down, improving transparency and communication with residents, and investing in recreational and trail systems. She is also working hard to increase property values, which she notes as a particularly pressing issue for Mendham. To address this, she launched an Ad Hoc Marketing Communications Committee which will help promote Mendham and boost property values.

As for cost-saving measures, Duarte initiated the successful move to join an energy co-operative with other municipalities, saving on energy-costs for residents. She also proposed a resolution that was unanimously adopted by the NJ League of Municipalities that asked Congress and the President to restore the full State and Local Tax (SALT) deductions.

Duarte has also lead a number of initiatives to make Mendham a more inclusive and welcoming town for every resident. She proposed a resolution to designate Mendham as a stigma-free town and chairs the corollary task force.

To address the COVID-19 pandemic, Duarte has helped spearhead a number of responses in her community. She organized an outreach program to call elderly residents to check in with them, as well as helping to arrange the “Mendham Gives Back” campaign which collected clothing, sporting goods, and food for residents in need. Furthermore, as chair of the Mendham Stigma-Free Task Force, she is working to lift spirits and provide mental health resources during this stressful period.
