Melissa Young
Mendham, Borough Council
Melissa Young is running for a seat on the Mendham Borough Council. She is heavily involved in the community, serving on many school committees, writing for Mendham Neighbors magazine and sitting on the Board of Health.
She believes that successful local government must adhere to the pillars of transparency, access, and accountability. She believes all Council meetings should be televised. Melissa has asked the Council to record and air their meetings on Mendham TV, but they have thus far refused. She feels strongly that information about the town, the Council, and all Committees should be disseminated in a timely manner via different platforms to encourage engagement. When elected, Young will hold regular office hours to meet with residents to listen to her community’s needs.
She also champions greater inclusivity in Mendham Borough. Previously, she asked the Council to officially recognize LGBTQ+ Pride Month in June and was disheartened when they chose not to. She believes it is incumbent upon us as a community to publicly show that we stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ neighbors, as neighboring towns and Morris County already do. As a councilwoman, she will champion inclusion and diversity.
For decades the residents of Mendham Borough have had only one voice representing them. It is well past time for Democrats to bring a voice to the Council so they can encourage discussion and find new solutions to the challenges we face.
